About Studio 55

55 is a notable number for me for two reasons.

It all started at Studio 55 Southend Road Garsington Oxford. My Mother was a Wildlife Sculptor and my Father a Landscape and Abstract Artist. From a young age I was introduced to painting and pottery. It was not unusual to come home to find clay on the dining room table instead of a meal.

55 is also the age at which I am stepping back from the Marketing Company I have run with my wife for the last 32 years to return to Ceramics with an aim to explore all forms including hand building slab and coil, thrown ware, mould made and sculptural.

Having studied Ceramics under Ian Shearman at Wheatley Park School in Oxford, Art Foundation at Oxford Brooke’s, and a Ceramics BA (Hons) degree course at Middlesex Polytechnic inspired by tutors including Neal French, Paul Astbury and Emmanuel Cooper, I feel that the efforts and time they invested in me will finally be put to use.

Tomorrow

From an idea provided by my youngest son, I am asking you to put up ideas for Ceramics. It can be a detailed sketch or just a written description, supplied with a way for me to communicate with you. I will then select one every few months and produce a piece which I will then get delivered to you completely free of charge.I will then post your sketch or description together with a photo on this page.
